Trick questions

June 12, 2009 at 9:56 PM (Uncategorized)

Generally, I like trick questions. But on the math test I took today, not so much. The question was:

Simplify – 7/0

Now, I’m sure you all know that this is impossible. I do, too. So I raised my hand and asked my teacher what she wanted us to put. But she didn’t answer my question. She just started talking about how you can’t divide by zero, and that the “math police” will come get you if you do. So I just wrote down, “Impossible” and left it at that. I really wish she would have specified how she wanted it to be express. But alas, no. Things can never be that easy. Like another question, where we had to draw a box divided into squares with  various parts shaded in. In the little, teeny, tiny answer space, which was obviously meant only for a letter. But alas, no. Things can never be that easy.

In other news, I’m going horseback riding tomorrrow. Destined to be an epic fail, no doubt. We shall see.

Fiasco, what?

June 12, 2009 at 9:44 PM (Uncategorized)

Okay, so I’m using my sister’s old laptop, when i decide I want to make a post here. So I go to this site and try to log in. Whoopdie doo, I don’t know my password! So I click on the “I forgot my password” link and get a new one sent to my email. Turns out, i don’t know my email’s password, either. So I click on the link for forgotten passwords for that. And it asks me to answer my security question. Turns out, i don’t know the answer to that, either. So I get onto the desktop and look up all my passwords, get the email, set the password for my blog, and here I am, making this post. And hoping like hell I’ll remember these things if there’s a next time.

Quiz Shows, DNA, and so much more!

April 2, 2009 at 8:09 PM (Uncategorized)

Okay, so I realize that I don’t post much here. And I also realize that that statement was a massive understatement, the likes of which aren’t often seen more than once in a lifetime. So, an update of how I spend my time…

The spring play, The Bachelor King, is going pretty well. I still don’t have all my lines memorized, despite it having been required since about two weeks ago. Being Frederica Pilfer is hard!

The regents classes are doing genetics in science, and so got to collect their own DNA and make it into a necklace. Being in Honours, I figured we wouldn’t do it. However, we all begged so much that our teacher eventually agreed, and so we got to swish saltwater in our mouths, then proceed to collect DNA and stick it in vials. Mine was chock full of it, but then after I finished, I accidentally dropped it in the garbage. So I did another, this one having an abysmally small amount of DNA in it. But oh well. We get extra credit if we walk into science wearing the necklaces tomorrow.

I am a participant in a Quiz Show about drugs, and my team, The Bus Drivers (Taking everyone to school!) is competing in the regional competition on Saturday. I’m rather nervous, as I’m not too confident in my knowledge. However, seeing as one of my best friends (who shall remain nameless; you know who you are) managed to beat the rest of the team in a three-against-one match hands down (That Golden Thumb of hers in the buzzer round!), I’m perfectly confident in the knowledge of others. So maybe we’ll manage to scrape through after all.Wish us luck!

We started the Pythagorean Theorem in Math today. Is it strange that I’m really excited about it? Such proves my nerdiness. As does my ability to recite the square root of pi at any given time.

I have a Girl Scout meeting tomorrow. I believe we’ll be playing Harry Potter Scene It. If so, I will steamroll eeeeeeeeveryone! My love of Harry Potter is second to none! Harry Potter = <3

I read The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins the other day. It was so good, I read it all in one go. 374 pages in 3 hours. Much fun. I can’t wait for the sequel in September!

I finished reading Dune by Frank Herbert. Now I’m on Dune Messiah. I can’t get over how great they both are.

My dance teacher worked my class to the ground on Wednesday! Literally! But we made good progress. Worst part was when I ran out of water. And this was a preeeetty big water bottle. At least double the size of the average bottle in a vending machine, probably more. At any rate, overall it was fun.

I guess that’s all I really have to say right now…. So, until we meet again, small group of readers!

A Black-Tie Bowling Event!

March 10, 2009 at 7:33 PM (Uncategorized)

Over the weekend my family and I went upstate to a friend’s Bat Mitzvah. Aftwards we went to lunch, then bowling. In our suits and jewelry. Thats right, we went bowling dressed in our best. Because bowling lanes just don’t have enough class anymore. Why, in the old days, they didn’t let just anybody in to knock over some plastic pins! You had to be dressed for the occasion. Well, I wasn’t. I pulled on some jeans in the car on the way there. Maybe not one of my best ideas, seeing as the seatbelt made it a bit of a challenge, but I managed.

Disgusting, much?

January 19, 2009 at 10:39 AM (Uncategorized)

My mom and I went grocery shopping the other day and left Benny home alone.  We were almost out of the neighborhood when my mom realized she left her list at home.  So we drove back and I went in to get it.

I got in the house and noticed that Benny wasn’t around.  I grabbed the list off the island, and turned to leave. Then I saw Benny.  He was standing on our dining room table! I reprimanded him and odered him off.

And what did he do?  He peed on the table and then got down.  That is where we eat.  He’d been out before we left, too.  We think it was more of a submissive peeing.  He used to do that a lot when we first got him.  I think he was just scared that he got caught.

Saving the world in three minutes would have been a lot more convenient.

January 19, 2009 at 10:33 AM (Uncategorized)

So, my friend and I decided to do a dance for our school’s talent show this year. We wanted to make it kind of like a “dance-off”, so we figured “4 minutes” by Justin Timberlake and Madonna would be good. I got all the required forms and rules and such, one of which said that the acts cannot be more than 3 minutes. That night, I called up my friend and asked her how long the song was. Lo and behold, it was 4 minutes. Now we have to either switch songs, or shorten this one somehow. Why, oh why didn’t the songwriters think 3 minutes would be enough to “save the world”, as said in the lyrics? I mean, really, the first line is repeated a good 8 times, surely it could have been shorter? “Saving the world” in three minutes would have been a lot more convenient.

Happy Holidays!

December 26, 2008 at 2:21 AM (Uncategorized)

Merry Christmas and Happy Chanukah everyone! And a very wonderful New Year, too! Among my Christmas gifts this year, there was a lovely Harry Potter messenger bag, with a picture each house’s crest on the front! And a $15 gift certificate for the book store! Coupled with the $25 one I got for my birthday, I now have $40, all to get my beloved books! I hope everyone else’s holiday was as fabulous as mine! Although, I did lose a pair of crappy headphones, the only thing I have that enables me to listen to my MP3 player. Perhaps I can find some ear buds somewhere around the house. My dog, Benny, had a great time investigating all the stockings, and was thrilled at all the treats in his own! Good tidings and great cheer to everyone, paix et amour!

It has begun!

November 9, 2008 at 1:55 AM (Nanowrimo, Writing)

NaNoWriMo has been going on for a week and I’m already behind! I’m about 5000 words behind schedule, but luckily I have a catch up sheet at the ready! I don’t believe I’ve written much about my NaNo story here, so Here’s an excerpt:

<!– @page { size: 8.5in 11in; margin: 0.79in } P { margin-bottom: 0.08in } –>

“Stonehenge?” I asked in disbelief, my anger disappearing in the light of this discovery. Lina and Jordan looked at each other, as if wondering exactly how much to tell me. After a long pause, Jordan answered.

“Yes. That is the entryway.”

“To where?” My voice was surprisingly calm, surely this was a joke!

“To–” Jordan began, but Lina cut him off with a sharp look. I glared at her. Jordan looked at Lina, and insisted,

“She has to know.” Lina’s eyes narrowed.

“She doesn’t trust us. It’s not safe.”

“Then we’ll just have to let her trust us. And the first step to trust is sharing any secrets you have.” Lina did nothing for a moment, simply sat and stared into the sky for an immeasurable moment.

“You’re right.” she finally said, and turned towards me. She glanced towards Jordan and said hesitantly, “I’m not sure where to begin.”

“Begin with the beginning.” Jordan supplied.

“Okay.” Lina took a deep breath. “Lineave,” she asked me. “How much do you know about Greek Mythology?”
